J&K Police Commemorates International Womens’ day, launches Women Safety App | KNO

Jammu, March 08 (KNO) : To Commemorate International Women’s Day, J&K Police organized a function under the title “Time is now, Rural and urban activists transforming womens’ lives” #press for progress, felicitated women achievers of J&K Police and launched women safety APP at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu University. Hon’ble First Lady, J&K Mrs. Usha Vohra who the Chief Guest. She launched the J&K Police Womens’ safety APP on the occasion, honoured the families of martyrs and women achievers of J&K Police. Speaking on the occasion, First lady of the state Mrs.

Usha Vohra complimented J&K Police for organizing the function to commemorate the international womens’ day. Those were honoured include Ms. Shaheen Ayoub wife of late Dy.S.P Mohammad Ayoub Pandit, and Ms. Mubina Akhter wife of late SI Feroz Ahmad Dar. Ms. Dyuti Rani Doley IPS, Director SVP National Police Academy Hyderabad, Ms. Bharti Vaid, Chairperson Police Wives Welfare Association, , Ms. Sargun Shukla IPS, SP Leh, Ms. Anita Sharma, SSP, Ms. Naila Zahoor, FA/CAO, PHQ, SP, Ms. Mamta Sharma, SP, Ms. Ranu Kundal, Dy.SP, Ms. Rajni Sharma, Dy. SP, Ms. Shakti Devi (in absentia), Inspector, Ms. Gulshan Akhter, Inspector, Ms. Renu Rattan, SI and Ms. Arti Thakur SI, were also be honoured on the occasion.

Earlier, Director General of Police DGP Dr. S.P Vaid, in his welcome address said that though the women were at par with men in the Vedic period in India yet in subsequent eras their condition deteriorated and in modern world they are struggling for the space particularly in the rural India.

He said that women is responsible for multiple role and multiple jobs but is economically deprived, physically and mentally tortured, assaulted and discriminated in side home, in buses and at work places. Referring to the women force in J& K Police, the DGP informed that from a humble beginning of 33 women personnel in 1965 their presence has increased to 2903 and another 208 female constables will join the department and we on our part are striving for increasing their number.

He further said that J&K Police has conducted programmes for women/girls such as Bharat Darshan tour, CMs T-20 Premier League in collaboration with J&K Sports Council, provided assistance in empowering women. We established subsidiary welfare centres in Jammu and Srinagar for providing skill oriented trainings free of cost with the objective of engaging unemployed family members or college / school dropouts, wards of serving / retired, deceased and martyr police personnel in different trade activities in sewing, weaving, knitting etc. We have also established a crèche in Jammu for working police women, he added.

The Chairperson of PWWA, Mrs. Bharti Vaid presented vote of thanks for all those who contributed in organising and making the event a success. She also presented special thanks for the chief guest for gracing the function. A cultural programme with main focus on women and their issues was presented. A power point presentation on role of women police in J&K was presented by SSP, Anita Sharma, JKPS and Ms Sargun Shukla, IPS gave a presentation on legal provisions of law.

The show was anchored by Ms. Shama Sharma and Najam-u- Nisa. The brief information about womens’ Safety App and its use was provided by AIG (communication), PHQ, Shri Manoj Kumar Pandit, JKPS. Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, Prof. R. D. Sharma was among others present on the occasion (KNO)
